Veronica began her career with LAUSD 16 years ago as a middle school counselor and teacher.  She then evolved as the College Counselor at a high school and then went on to become an Assistant Principal of School Counseling Services.

My passion lies in helping students realize their true potential post high school and am happy to join the GEAR UP team in servicing students from all walks of life!

Cindy Castro Vega, who attended Liechty Middle School and Miguel Contreras Learning Complex, graduated from UC Santa Barbara.

“Growing up in Pico Union, I am aware of the struggles and the barriers that some of the students we serve may face. I love working for GEAR UP because I am passionate about empowering students who may have everything going against them, but who I know can reach their goals and be successful with guidance and motivation.”

Genesis Sic is a GEAR UP alumna who holds a bachelor’s in sociology from UC Santa Cruz and is working toward a master’s in human development from Pacific Oaks College.

“I have always associated GEAR UP with individuals who are kind, respectful, passionate, and wholeheartedly care and support students and their families. Becoming an academic advisor was a no-brainer.”
