The Griot Circle
PLUS ME is honoring Black student stories with a new program: The Griot Circle.
Griot Circle — PLUS ME Project (theplusmeproject.org)
“Griot” is a West African term for a storyteller, historian, and/or an experienced orator. Traditionally, Griots keep and pass down the history of a community as a way of celebrating and preserving their heritage. Storytelling is the vehicle Griots use to keep the memory and spirit of their community alive.
PLUS ME is excited to pay homage to this tradition by providing a free virtual 5-week summer storytelling program for Black high school students in SoCal. It will be a great opportunity to continue to honor and champion Black stories while practicing your writing and interpersonal communication skills with the help of a free PLUS ME journal. With the help of 5 Black changemakers who will serve as guest speakers, you will be empowered and find support as you celebrate your story. You will meet virtually every Friday with other students to share your stories and reveal insights from the weekly assignments. Upon program completion, you will receive a certificate of accomplishment.
